REJUVENATE THROUGH THE FEET
Various reactions may (or may not!) occur following a reflexology session. Usually these are subtle and they often go unrecognised as being a result of the reflexology treatment.
Many reactions are positive signs and are part of a healing process. Symptoms are short-term (usually lasting 24-48 hours). Some symptoms may indicate that the body is attempting to rebalance.
The following are some of the normal reactions following reflexology:
Increased energy
Tiredness or changes to sleep patterns
Headaches
Increased thirst or urination
Increased mucus or sweating
Skin rashes or spots
Changes to appetite
Increased bowel movements
Feeling cold
Emotional or psychological release (such as crying or anger).
Cold symptoms or a sluggish/hangover feeling the next day.
These side affects are caused by toxin elimination after reflexology. It's advisable to drink more water than usual to increase the rate of toxin elimination and reduce any side affects.
Aim to follow this aftercare during the first 24–48 hours, giving your body gentle attention:
Rest and relax (you could try a breathing exercise to help);
Drink more water (to help speed up the body’s natural cleansing process. 1-2 litres per day is recommended);
Avoid stimulant drinks (as the treatment is a detoxifying one);
Eat light meals, including fruit and vegetables (to avoid blood being diverted to the digestive system).
If you do experience any symptoms try to listen to your body and take time to rest. At your next reflexology session, you can let the therapist know how you felt.
